Air Release Air Valves
Air Release Air Valves can also be known as small orifice air valves and are designed to maintain the efficiency of piping systems by continuously releasing accumulated air or gas whilst the system is under pressure. The release of gas is imperative for the maximising of pump flow rate efficiencies, reduces the corrosion of pipework and prevents the build-up of gases which can result in surge and damaging water hammer.
As gas builds-up in the valve chamber the float, often connected to a lever mechanism and button seal, drops allowing gas to exit the valve through the small orifice. Vented gas is replaced by the liquid media which lifts the float and closes the valve.
Air Release or Small Orifice Air Valves should be sized specifically with respect to flow rates and levels of entrained or dissolved gases and are typically located at the high points where gases gravitate to.
