Double Offset butterfly valves are also known as high performance butterfly valves. The ‘Double Offset’ refers to the position of the shaft within the valve, and therefore the opening and closing action of the disc. The shaft slightly moved back from the centreline of the valve, and also out of the centreline of the pipeline, creating a cam-action on which the disc rotates.
This significantly increases performance and reliability by dramatically reducing friction throughout the main part of the operating cycle.
Double offset butterfly valves ensure safe function and tight shut off even in the event of changing temperatures or pressure spikes. The double offset design reduces seat wear and boasts zero leakage shut off throughout the full pressure range.
