Plastic Diaphragm Valves

Used in throttling, maintenance and on/off service applications.

Plastic Diaphragm Valves

Plastic diaphragm valves, manufactured from hard-wearing plastic materials, are designed to be resistant to abrasion and clogging. Plastic diaphragm check valves can be used in applications where blockages may otherwise occur. However, the linear design of the component allows a streamlined flow of media. Durapipe are leading manufacturers of plastic diaphragm valves, with two core product series: Dialock and VM.

Plastic diaphragm check valves are a top end design, often used in throttling, maintenance and on/off service applications. Plastic diaphragm valves are used in a wide range of applications, ranging from water treatment to chemical abrasion processes. Their application uses will most likely depend on seal and body material composition.
Operated either manually, electrically or pneumatically, plastic diaphragm valves are commonly associated with 2-way solenoid valves and generally consist of a rubber diaphragm that moves up and down in a valve body. Thanks to their linear design, plastic diaphragm check valves offer significantly increased flow rates.

Common material selections include PVC, PTFE and EPDM. EPDM diaphragms will be used in applications where chemical resistance is a necessity, PVC diaphragm valves may be utilised in wastewater applications. It is important to check material properties before utilising the plastic in order to ensure the suitability and longevity of your diaphragm valve.

Frequently asked questions

PVC Diaphragm Valves

Polyvinyl chloride, often referred to as PVC, is one of the most widely produced synthetic plastic polymers. Available as either a rigid or flexible material, PVC diaphragms valves can be used in a wide range of applications.

Often utilised in waste water applications, PVC diaphragm valves are also commonly used to replace rubber as a primary material for valves.
PVC exhibits high hardness and mechanical properties, heat stability, chemical resistance and insulation.

uPVC is more rigid than PVC and is commonly used in industrial applications due to its strong resistance to chemicals, sunlight and oxidisation from water.

EPDM Diaphragm Valves

EPDM is an extremely durable synthetic rubber, which is compatible with fireproof hydraulic fluids, hot and cold water, alkalis and ketones.

Often used in hazardous applications - due to its resistance to heat, ozone and weather resistance - EPDM diaphragm valves have excellent electrical insulation properties.

EPDM is usually the most common material composition for both diaphragm and butterfly valves. Due to their flexible properties, EPDM diaphragm valves can be used in a wide range of industries and applications.
